5 Ways to Confidently Advocate for Your Newborn in the Hospital
🚨 DISCLAIMER: I'm not a medical professional—just a mom who has learned a lot through experience, research, and asking the hard questions. My goal is to help you feel informed and confident in your choices so you can make the best decisions for YOUR baby.

Dear Momma,

I see you preparing for your hospital birth, and I want you to know something important: you are stronger than you know, and you absolutely have the right to advocate for your baby.
Between the medical terminology, hospital protocols, and well-meaning staff, it can feel overwhelming. But here's what I've learned through my own journey, and what I want to share with you today.

đź’› Your Legal Rights Are Real Those butterflies in your stomach when something doesn't feel right? That's your momma instinct talking, and it deserves to be heard. You have the legal right to informed consent, to refuse any procedure, and even to request a different provider if you're feeling pressured.
đź’› You Have More Choices Than You Think Many "standard" procedures aren't actually mandatory.
Things like the vitamin K shot, immediate cord clamping, and routine bathing are options, not requirements.
Isn't it empowering to know you have choices?
đź’› Your Voice Matters When you need to respond to (what may feel like as pressure), here are three gentle but powerful phrases you can use:
  • "I understand this is routine, but I'm declining this intervention for my baby."
  • "Can you show me the medical necessity for our specific situation?"
  • "I'd  be happy to read the refusal form thoroughly before signing. "
Having a supportive partner or birth advocate by your side can help amplify your voice when you're focused on labor. And remember, patient advocates are there to help if you need them!
Remember, the choices you make today become part of your beautiful journey with your little one. Trust yourself, trust your instincts, and know that you have the power to make informed decisions that feel right for your family.
