The Five Minutes That Changed My Mornings

Feb 13, 2026 | Blog

There was a time when my mornings felt like a race I never signed up for.

My feet would hit the floor and my mind was already moving — what needs to be done, who needs what, what I forgot yesterday, what I should be doing better today. Before I even brushed my teeth, I felt behind.

What changed things wasn’t anything dramatic.

This didn’t start as some grand reinvention of my mornings. There was no elaborate routine or perfectly mapped-out plan.

Just five minutes.

Five quiet, intentional minutes.

It started simply. One morning, I stepped outside with my coffee and sat down on the deck. The air was calm, the day hadn’t fully picked up speed yet, and for once I didn’t immediately reach for my phone.

I just sat there.

No scrolling.
No noise.
No input.

Just stillness and a little bit of space to breathe.

There weren’t any big dramatic shifts at first. Nothing I could point to and say, “Well, that changed everything.” But I could feel something subtle happening. My breathing slowed. The tension I didn’t even realize I was carrying began to loosen. Even my thoughts felt a little less loud.

It felt like my nervous system finally got the message:

We’re not being chased.

So I did it again the next day.

And the next.

Those five minutes slowly became something I genuinely looked forward to. A small ritual. A gentle boundary. A way of entering my day instead of being thrown into it.

And somewhere along the way, I realized something important.

The way we start our mornings doesn’t just shape our schedule. It shapes how we move through the entire day.

When my mornings began with urgency, everything felt rushed.
When they began with comparison, nothing felt like enough.
When they began with immediate input, my mind felt crowded before breakfast.

But when they began with stillness, even briefly, the entire tone of my day felt different.

I responded differently.
I spoke more gently.
I moved through things with more steadiness.

Trust me, life was still life.

My responsibilities didn’t disappear. My days didn’t suddenly become lighter or quieter. But I was meeting them from a more grounded place, and that changed far more than I expected.

Five minutes sounds almost too simple, doesn’t it?

We’re so used to believing change has to be big or complicated. But often the shifts that help us most are the quiet ones. The ones that don’t look like much from the outside but feel deeply restorative in real life.

Five minutes of quiet.
Five minutes of fresh air.
Five minutes of warm sunlight on my face.
Five minutes without demands, noise, or expectations.

Just a gentle pause before the day fully begins.

No rigid rules here. Not another routine to perfect. Just an intentional and comforting pause before the day even begins.

If your mornings have been feeling heavy, rushed, or like you’re already playing catch-up before the day even starts, maybe this is your reminder:

You don’t need a brand new plan.

You might just need five quiet minutes.

And yes… they really can change everything.

Until next time sweet Mommas,
