The Power of Daily Choices: Shaping Our Health and Well-Being

Wellness Within Us

There is wellness within all of us. We don't often see ourselves as vessels of health, and sometimes we neglect our health in the hustle and bustle of daily life. We are busy individuals with a lot on our plates, and rarely do we pause to consider how our daily choices impact our overall well-being. Yet, these choices—whether made in busyness, hardship, joy, or calm—affect us physically, emotionally, spiritually, and internally.

The Impact of Daily Choices

Everything we expose ourselves to, internally and externally, plays a role in the puzzle of our lives. Given that health is a top priority for most of us, why is it often an afterthought? If we made our health a daily consideration, could we be healthier and happier as individuals and families? I believe it's not as difficult as it seems. When we make conscious decisions with our well-being in mind, we respect the life within us too much to allow it to be an afterthought.

Showing Up for Ourselves

As much as we show up for others in our lives, we must intentionally show up for ourselves. When we exercise or move our bodies each day, we tell ourselves, "I appreciate all you do for me, your strength, and your capabilities." When we nourish our bodies with good nutrients, we say, "Thank you for giving me energy, wellness, health, balance, and longevity."

Faith and Assurance

When we choose to believe in something greater than ourselves—in my family, it's our Lord and Savior—we know we are not alone. Our faith assures us that our Creator carries us, lives within us, and guides us. In hard times, our faith provides strength and assurance.

Creating a Healthy Environment

When we control our surroundings—like within our homes—and choose to avoid harsh chemicals, we allow our bodies to focus on healing rather than fighting off invaders. And let's not forget the importance of life-giving friendships—those who speak life over us, encourage us, believe in us, care for us, pray for us, and act as pillars in our daily lives.

Empowerment Through Intentionality

By making these mindful choices, we honor the wellness within us.

To think that our health is left to chance or simply genetics denies the crucial role we play in our own lives. It’s like giving our joy, peace, happiness, anger, tears, and all other emotions to someone else to control. This is the opposite of what we want. No one else should have that much control over our lives, and we shouldn’t give them permission to take it.
Intentionality, on purpose, choosing you, choosing to respect the body and life you have been given—this is empowerment. It’s all within us. We just need to acknowledge it and integrate it back into our daily lives, taking responsibility for what we may have unknowingly outsourced to others over the years.
